In August 1983, the club was established for building tradesmen and their families through the support of unions in the building industry. Known originally as the Building Workers Club it grew very quickly and often had a waiting list of people keen to join. It was certainly a testament to the need for a community club in the Mt Druitt area.
The club has always had a strong community spirit and a focus on assisting local people, community and businesses. The development of the club itself became a way to help the community with a barbeque area project providing work for nine unemployed Mt Druitt residents, helping them get back into permanent employment.
Mt Druitt Workers Club is now known as West Tradies. The club is an important venue for the wider community with a commitment to helping local schools, sporting clubs and community services providing excellent facilities and entertainment events for locals and the wider community.
Teamwork. Responsibility. Respect. Integrity. Commitment. Enthusiasm.
